#AbledsAreWeird T-Shirt Fundraiser
BY MERRY COLEMAN
In March, writer and disability activist Imani Barbarin created a tag on Twitter that would see thousands of disabled twitter users sharing their stories of the strange ways abled people have reacted to seeing them in public. The tweets range from frustrating to downright funny.
This isn’t the first time Barbarin has gone viral with a Twitter tag either, she’s the proud creator of the tags #DisTheOscars and #ThingsDisabledPeopleKnow.
As to be expected, there has been some backlash. However, this hasn’t stopped Imani from going on to create a fundraiser for a new mobility scooter, using her tag #AbledsAreWeird to create a t-shirt, now available on Bonfire!

The t-shirt is grey and reads “#AbledsAreWeird” with the gritted teeth emoji. It is retailing at $25, or just under £20 (not including P&P), which will be going to a great place (helping a disabled writer get a new mobility aid). Imani shows her amusement with the trend in her promotional tweet. Head on over to Imani’s Bonfire store to get your hands on one of these t-shirts here, or consider donating some money her way if you can afford to.
